I teach kindergarten in a small, rural school in South Carolina. Many of my students come from single parent, low-income homes and face many challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Our school receives free lunch and many receive food bags to take home on the weekends. Though I can not do much to change their home environments, I can certainly work to make their school environment the best that it can be!
Despite many hardships and difficulties, all of the Kindergarten students come into our classrooms every day full of life, smiles and ready to learn!
They are ready for what the day may bring and they are so excited about learning. Kindergarten is the perfect age to capture their hearts and help them to develop a love of learning that will grow and create life-long learners.
My project is requesting various Science materials and kits that can be used during teacher instruction or independently the students in our Science Center. I have requested a Life Cycle Kit, an Animal Viewer and a Bug Kit that will allow children to observe and explore the areas of Life Science. The weight set and thermometers are tools that are needed for many experiments and learning opportunities. Additionally, the Sound and the Sink or Float Kits offer learning opportunities for students in the area of Physical Science. All of these materials will offer students many engaging learning experiences as they reinforce and teach the South Carolina Science Standards for Kindergarten.
Children thrive in the classroom by having the opportunity to learn through exploration.
With these materials that I have requested, I will be able to afford my students the opportunity to learn through discovery in an interactive, hands-on Science Center.
