Kindergarten Rockin' Readers

My students need a reading, listening and interactive reading area in my classroom to stimulate their curiosity in the world of literacy. This includes a book display, storage units, a CD player and other items.

My Students

My 20 kindergarten kids are eager, enthusiastic and active learners. The students range from age 5-6. I want to create a classroom that encourages creativity, innovation and encourages a literacy rich classroom. This inspires curiosity and leads them to be lifelong learners. My kindergarteners love to sing, interact with books, play learning games, and move and engage in hands-on activities.

My school lacks the resources to provide an environment that is kid friendly to instill a love for engaging in reading and learning.

The reading center will stimulate their reading experience in a relaxing environment. We have seen great strides in their academic abilities with our active learning equipment and want to keep the momentum of lifelong learners.

My Project

"All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten", wrote Robert Fulghum. This title is motivation for me to inspire young minds and build a foundation for emerging readers. Through this donation, I will be creating a reading center to encourage a balanced reading program that will supplement my instruction. Students will be able to participate in listening to reading, practicing word work and writing. Also, allowing the kids to find a comfy spot to read and learn both independently and with a buddy.

I am always looking for ways to encourage and engage students. Providing books of interest and on their reading level will support their ability to become readers. From learning letters, to reading words, to reading and understanding- these are the building blocks to mold fluent readers.

A shelf is a home for a book and our reading corner is place to get cozy and let our mind wander to the world of literary characters. Kindergarten is the most critical year in school to instill a love for books. My goal is to inspire young readers to learn more.
