Kindergarten Recovery

Help me give my students the magnetic sound sorting boards and other phonics and math materials that they need in order to learn letter sounds and numbers, so that they can leave Kindergarten at or above level.

My Students

I am the kindergarten teacher to 26 students. Our school has gone back to in-person learning. We are all excited to be back but there are many challenges to teaching a primary class and staying socially distanced to stay safe.

Now that we are back in school, I can see the results of being out of school showing up in their behavior, the lack of understanding of routines and procedures and the absence of any basic instruction.

Some of the students are coming into Kindergarten and have never been to school before. They are coming without even the basic understanding of how to line up. I am seeing learning deficits like never before. As I said I have a class of 26 students only 4 are at or above level for phonics and reading the rest need intensive interventions these are about the same results for math.

I want to give my students the best education that I can. I want to make every moment a positive learning opportunity. I want to help my students recover from the loss of learning due to Covid-19. These students show great potential but we need meaningful learning resources.

My Project

My students need foundational learning. The learning locks, the magnetic sound sorting, the build a word magnetic boards, tactile alphabet and simple word boards with help the students with foundational reading skills. The sequencing trains, dot it journal, tactile numbers, it's a snap counting and the numbers to 100 match up with help develop foundational counting skills and all of these materials with benefit kinesthetic learners, because the students will be using their hands and the materials are brightly colored so they will be visually engaging as well.

I want the centers to be meaningful to their learning needs.

I don't want the centers to be just busy work. I want all the students to benefit from meaningful and engaging learning instruction and the centers that I chose will help provide a meaningful learning experience.

These materials will be used during what used to be small group time. Since Covid-19 our small group time has been reduced to one student using the center alone or two students sharing the same center at opposite ends of a table. But that has been the challenge for me, since the groups are much smaller I have had to utilize more centers and I don't have enough meaningful centers to accommodate all the students. But with your generous donations every student in my class will have a safe, socially distanced, meaningful learning experience.
