My Students

My kindergartners love using technology, color and play-based activities to learn about their world. In kindergarten, each student comes into class with a different skill set and this means a lot of differentiation and creativity.

My school has approximately 70 percent Free and Reduced Lunch with about a 30% student turnover rate; due to financial insecurity, students and families move often.

My children learn in diverse ways and are engaged through hands-on, play-based learning and through technology integration. Not all students have access to a computers or internet at home. Technology integration and play-based learning opportunities provides kindergartners with the schema for future global success in a technology-saturated world.

My Project

My kindergartners love social studies. Unfortunately, there are not many books that address our state standards, and address or peak their natural curiosity about the world around them. By including books that can be used in small group as well as "checked out" by the teacher for independent reading time, my hope is that their engagement will increase. If engagement levels are high, so will learning. Kids need lots of variety and more social studies-related content ares to help prepare them for the social sciences, social skills and informative learning experiences and language. Incorporating this into their readers will help them to better understand their world.
