At Kitty Stone Elementary School, I teach an inclusion kindergarten class. Students come from all types of backgrounds - some very enriched and some very limited. Although all of my students are different, all are precious! In order to meet the specific learning needs of high-end and more at-risk learners, I try hard to provide open-ended activities so children can learn at many different levels. For example, one child may be learning the alphabet while listening to a story while another child may be learning how "r-controlled vowels" work. This proposal is developed to enrich drama and puppetry experiences to increase language and vocabulary use in the classroom. Children learn through play and they love it! Dramatic presentations where children assist in writing the script, assigning roles, making costumes and acting out roles are valuable on so many different levels. I would love to be able to purchase a nice puppet stand, puppets that are durable and attractive as well as costumes for dress-up plays. I began a collection of puppets with my personal money this year that include "Famous Threesomes" - 3 Billy Goats, 3 Pigs and 3 Bears. Without a puppet stand, it is difficult for the children to "put on a show" for their peers and parents. I would love to add to my puppet and costume collection to provide my students with materials to retell their favorite stories. Thank you very much for your consideration of this request.
