My Students

My kindergarten students come to school with incredible enthusiasm for learning and they love to be engaged in hands-on activities. They come from a variety of backgrounds and, for some, it is their first school experience.

I teach at an International Baccalaureate Primary Years school with approximately 900 students in Pre-K through 5th grade.

Our curriculum focuses on student inquiry-based learning with a global perspective. Under my care is a group of wildly curious kindergarteners who are eager to learn and have fun.

My Project

My kindergarten students love story time! We read every day to learn about something new, to discover personal connections to the stories we read, to facilitate discussions, to help us make sense of confusing situations, and simply for the joy of reading! Particularly with my young learners, books are a valuable educational resource.

Through literature, my students are becoming better readers and writers and they are developing a love for reading in the process!

My students need a variety of mentor texts to help them develop as writers. The books selected are a part of a writers workshop we are using and provide examples of different writing styles and illustrations. The books range from stories with more complex sentences to simple statements or no words at all. My students express themselves in a variety of ways and these books help them to find a style that fits their interests and readiness level.

In order to provide my students access to these wonderful resources, we will also need a way to keep them organized. Having book bins will allow me to sort and store the books so students can easily find what they need.
