This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like learning how to read? Reading is something that we take for granted, but for my students, reading is a new mountain to climb! These TAG Readers will allow my students to tackle this new challenge successfully!

My students are a wonderfully diverse group of children from Connecticut.

Our city is constantly changing, ethnically and economically. In my class alone, my students represent several countries and speak six different home languages! My scholars come from homes where they are not always able to afford the cost of preschool, and as a result, my students come in at many, varied different levels. Although the children come from different backgrounds, they all have a wonderful desire to succeed, and they all look forward to reading! You should see their faces when they first realize that they can read. It's priceless!

My Project

I'm requesting two TAG Readers and two sets of headphones for the TAG Readers. This would complete our class set of 6 TAG Readers. My students were lucky enough to receive 4 TAG Readers and headphones earlier this year, and recently, we were ecstatic to find out that our project for new TAG books and cases was fully funded! Often, we have 6 students in the listening center and my students have to share TAG Readers. This creates chaos, because the pen without the headphones can be rather loud!All we need is to complete this last project for a fully functioning, independent listening center!

My students love the TAG Readers and use them each day.

My hope is that with the addition of two new TAG Readers, my students will be able to read and listen to their books independently, while allowing the class to work at the same time. I have seen children who previously had no interest in books, who thought they couldn't read, engage fully with the TAG Readers. These resources will continue to increase student interest, focus, and reading ability within my classroom.
