Help me give my students a classroom post office with notecards, wooden mailbox sets, and a mail carrier costume to build social, emotional, and writing skills.
My students live in a rural community of about 2,000 residents. They may not realize it yet, but they are growing and learning in a very supportive and tight-knit community that cares about each of them.
In my classroom, I have 18 kindergartners of varying social, emotional, and academic needs.
They are creative, clever, and spontaneous! They have so much excitement for school and learning; it makes my job so enjoyable! My students are unique individuals with unlimited potential. It is my job to ignite their excitement for learning so they can reach their full potential!
My Project
We are looking to expand our dramatic play area; and we would love to have a post office! Students will use the mail carrier costume and the pretend play mail boxes to pretend to send letters to each other or even to family members. Students will also reinforce money skills by "purchasing" stamps to send their letters.
My kindergarteners learn many essential life skills in our dramatic play area including sharing, taking turns, and conflict resolution.
The post office would not only build social emotional skills but it would also reinforce academic skills including letter recognition, number recognition, writing, and financial literacy. The post office is a great real-life application of writing and I know my students will love it!
Thank you for helping us get materials to make learning fun!
