Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my kindergarten classroom involves movement, dancing, singing, and many group activities. We do many centers in our room where students are given a lot of free choices to match their learning style.
Our school is student-focused, yet lacks resources.
It is a very upbeat and happy environment. These five and six-year-olds want to be engaged in learning social, emotional, and academic skills. In order to help facilitate my students' learning, we need baby dolls with accessories as well as math centers to improve their learning and social skills. My kindergarteners would get to use the stand up magnetic board to blend and read words as they are becoming young readers during our centers and literacy time.
My Project
My kindergarteners would benefit greatly from these hands-on learning materials. Both my girls and boys love to use their imagination. They would gain from and enjoy playing with their new baby dolls, doll house, tree house, baby changing and care station, and doll accessories. During dramatic play time, my 5-6 year olds would enjoy getting to use a tool bench in our play area.
My kindergarteners would build social, emotional, and academic skills from these activities.
Along with the doll accessories, my students would enjoy new, engaging math and handwriting activities such as a peg board to match numbers to quantities, magnetic numbers to learn correct handwriting, play connectors, and number/letter magnet boards to practice correct formation. The four handwriting boards could be used to engage students while practicing number and letter writing skills. They would get to use these activities during our free choice center play time every day. Free play time includes art activities, writing lab, math lab, science lab, dramatic play, block center, library lab, literacy lab, and a fine motor lab each day. We also have many small group activities with adults where these manipulatives would get lots of use and aid in student engagement.
