This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
We are aspiring to be mathematicians in kindergarten... can you help us?! I am a kindergarten teacher in a low socioeconomic community. Most of my students come to kindergarten without having attended preschool. I am proud to teach an inclusion classroom, therefore I have students with communication disorders and Autism. Although the diversity of my classroom is great, it also causes some challenges when it comes to math instruction.
My students love to learn but they don't like using paper and pencils for tasks. Kindergarten students need hands-on activities to make real life connections. I can't provide my students with the needed math manipulatives due to the low amount of money provided by my school district.
Kindergarten students learn best with activities they can touch, see, manipulate and work with. The math sets I am requesting are focused around Indiana Academic State Standards and will help ensure that my students are able to sort, count, and make patterns. These math manipulatives I am requesting will benefit each student in my classroom. Kindergarten students learn best when they are engaged in meaningful activities.
The majority of my students are coming from backgrounds where they did not have opportunities to learn math concepts before coming to kindergarten. Your help will make it possible for my students to be proud and successful mathematicians!
