This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are striving to be independent learners. Most of the students in my classroom are English Language Learners and need more opportunities to hear the English language to become proficient.

Our classroom is a high energy environment full of English Language Learners!

Our school is in a low income, high poverty area and many of the students I teach are English language learners. My students are five and six year olds full of life and an amazing command of technology. Sadly, the classroom has little technology available for the students to use. A typical day in our classroom consists of short bursts of whole group instruction followed by independent work at centers while I teach small groups.

My Project

It is important for my students to hear and interact with the English language to be able to reach the learning goals of kindergarten. Kindles will allow my students to use reading apps to build their vocabulary and understanding of phonics. We will use the Kindles to film class projects in which the students will be able to practice using their new language skills. We are also learning how to code together. Students will be able to access the online portion to practice writing code and build new apps. The Smart Pencils will help students to practice reading and math skills independently while I work with small groups.

Supporting our project will be a vote towards supporting computer science in our schools.

It is a vote of confidence for my students telling them that the world believes in them and that people are believing in their success.
