Each day in kindergarten we are learning and exploring new and exciting things. It is so rewarding to see kindergarten students make great strides in such a short amount of time. I love the Dr. Seuss quote, "Don't give up. I believe in you all. A person's a person no matter how small."
My kindergarten class is made up of 4 to 6 year old boys and girls who love listening to stories!
Each day the children enter the classroom eager to learn and grow. We spend our days learning together through hands-on learning and real life experiences. I try to make learning fun for all students and meet the needs of each individual student through small group activities and differentiating instruction. One way that I do that is by having rotations. When the students rotate I am able to work one-on-one or in small groups with students at different abilities. One of the rotations that our class loves is the listening center.
My Project
Each day our classroom has different learning centers that the students visit to enhance their learning in several ways. One of the different stations that the students can go to is our listening center. We currently have a CD player that I purchased and a set of headphones for the students to be able to listen to and follow along with a book on CD. The problem that our classroom has is for these stations to be independent stations the students need to be able to arrive at the station and operate the station on their own. Currently, the CD player, CD's, and all the headphones are all on one small desk. Having everything in one little location makes it hard for the students to access easily and use without breaking the materials. It would make it so much more accessible for the kindergartners to be able to access and use with easy a listening and storage center.
Having a listening and storage center will make it easy for my students to access and use our current listening center CD player and headphones.
This will give my students the ability to work at a listening center independently.
