Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are the Golden Eagles and my Kindergarten Eaglets are ready to SOAR! I am fortunate to work in a Title 1 school with an amazing group of hardworking, respectful and inquisitive students. But, like most of the nation, we are under a Safer-at-Home order.
Our students' families are playing a greater role in their child's education and they need help.
As teachers, we have come together as a grade level to provide consistent, accessible virtual instruction to all our students and their families. However, due to limited supplies at home, we are not able to provide the same engaging activities we would in our classrooms.
My Project
The materials requested are needed to continue a high-quality learning experience for all our kindergarten students while we are under Safer-at-Home orders and we delivering our instruction through video platforms.
Like many teachers across the country, we are asking a lot of our families as they help guide their kindergartner's learning at home.
We want to be able to provide them with the material they do not have at home (and with stores closed may not be able to purchase) so everyone can participate in our lessons. These lessons include hands-on STEAM lessons similar to what we would be doing in-person in our classrooms. For example, we're teaching a Forces and Motion unit where students will need bouncy balls to demonstrate how objects move and how force affects an object's movements. We are also requesting Play-Doh for students to build their sight words, dominoes to model number sentences, and build your own face animal stickers to motivate students as they write their first animal research report.
