Hello! Today (September 20th) marks the 26th day that we have been in school! Kindergarten can be tough for a lot of my little ones at this point but now they are getting the hang of things and thriving.
All of my students are eager to come to school every day and learn.
The have been especially getting excited about these 12 sight lists that I have put in place. They have all year to try and pass all of the list, yet I already have some students who are well on their way to achieving this goal.
The majority of my students came in not knowing their alphabet or sounds that they make. Now, the majority of them do and it is all because of their hard work and determination. They are like little sponges and I am so excited to see the growth each and every day!
My Project
We have a competition! 12 sight lists. 20 words each. 240 words total when the basic requirement is only 40 words. They have the WHOLE school year. Friendly competition which is already happening! Two students have passed sight list 1. After every list they get a certificate, a small treat and their picture on Class Dojo. Their excitement over passing a list is the best part! (Apart from them learning to read in a fun way).
They are extremely motivated, and they all want to win the first prize tablet as promised.
They are so motivated that I decided to see if I can extend the prizes all the way to the first FIVE students instead of the first student only. I hope to be able to award five students with an Amazon Fire tablet. Not only will it serve as a great incentive, they will be able to take it home and use a lot of wonderful programs that the school provides in order to continue enriching their education. Some programs that they will have access to are Imagine Learning, Wonders (which is our language arts program) and GoMath! (Which is our math program).
