My Students

Kindergarten kids need to play! Help us build math and literacy foundations through activities that are fun and engaging - and will allow us to play a little, too!

My students are the most diverse group of learners!

All of the students in my class of kinder-kids come from different areas of the city, as we're a magnet school. This year, my class is full of 22 beautiful children. We range in age from 4-5, and come from many different economic backgrounds. The best part about our school is that our magnet program is based around the idea of learning through exploration and working in groups. The materials in this project will help my students work together in small groups on meaningful, fun literacy and math activities.

My Project

I am requesting math and literacy resources for my students to work with in small groups. The resources will work on a variety of skills, including fine motor skills, sight words, alphabet recognition and beginning phonics sound recognition, counting and number recognition, sorting, attributes, and addition. These skills will be addressed through a variety of methods which will allow students to internalize their learning. There is a large math addition game which will allow students to play a Twister-like game to identify math facts. The sight word stringing game and tweezers to sort manipulatives will allow for development of fine motor skills while working on attributes and sight word recognition. The Hot Dots sets with pens will allow for alphabet recognition, number recognition, beginning phonics and math facts practice while giving students auditory feedback. The ten frames with counters will allow for practice with counting and addition to ten - a kindergarten MUST!

My students need materials that are engaging.

There is nothing worse than giving students work that doesn't interest them. I need to give them a love for learning! Your assistance will help my students to have fun while mastering kindergarten skills, which will prepare them for first grade! Common core standards are built to get children college- and career-ready. Please help my students build the foundation for lifelong success!
