This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a first-year Kindergarten teacher, my goal is to provide our students with fun and engaging opportunities to learn in a safe and loving environment. Unfortunately, my biggest challenge is obtaining basic yet essential supplies.

My students come from an economically disadvantaged, urban area in Philadelphia.

As a result, families struggle to provide supplies that our students will need throughout the school year. Moreover, due to budget cuts within the district, our school can only provide a limited amount of resources. I, of course, will contribute what I can for them, but providing educational materials for all 30 of my students is well beyond my means. Our students are curious, enthusiastic, and ready to engage in the education they deserve.

My Project

My students need basic supplies like composition books, pencils, and paper. These resources are especially important because they will fulfill some of the most fundamental needs in the classroom. Our students will need to develop their handwriting and storytelling skills by using copy books. Supplies like glue, scissors, and construction paper will help them develop coordination skills as well as enjoy learning beyond a series of worksheets. Our students love to explore books in our small classroom library and these additions will surely excite and encourage them to read. Items like chart and copy paper, pencils, and an electric sharpener are basics that will aid them daily.

Any donation, large or small, will greatly impact their learning.

Our students are eager to learn and to create significant change in their communities. Kindergarten is the perfect opportunity to invest them in their education so that they grow to be great leaders.
