Kindergarten Kickoff Kit

Help me give my students a warm welcome to Kindergarten with learning essentials for home that support their social and emotional adjustment, including white boards, play dough, and their own supply boxes!

My Students

We WILL BE a Kindergarten class with 25 active and curious students embarking on an exciting school year together! As we move into this new year with many uncertainties due to COVID-19, we need to focus on the social-emotional health of these youngest learners and support a sense of belonging.

Not all children will have the materials they need at home to engage in distance learning as we start the year or they may feel anxious about starting Kindergarten online- let's change that!

Our school population includes many low income students, English language learners, and students with special needs, so it is especially important these children have all the resources they need to thrive in a home learning setting.

My Project

These young learners have all been through challenging social and emotional changes due to the pandemic. This Kickoff Kit will help our Kindergartners feel a sense of community to help calm anxieties and get excited to begin this journey together! During this time of social distancing, these kids need to feel connected and a part of our classroom.

We want to make sure every student has both the emotional support and as well as academic materials they need to engage, feel included, and learn in their home setting and online.

To support their emotional well being, the project includes welcome postcards to be delivered in the mail, "All About Me" posters to introduce themselves to the class, as well as books to support them in processing the many emotions they may be feeling. To create a community of learners, all students need an equitable chance to access online curriculum and have meaningful, HANDS ON experiences at home. White boards and markers will help them participate and share in our Zoom classes effectively. Play dough and scissors will help them develop motor skills as they work through assignments at home. Supply boxes will provide a special place to keep their learning materials organized. This sense of ownership and responsibility will support their growing confidence as a learner.

Most importantly, we want to set kids up for a meaningful and positive Kindergarten experience so they are EXCITED to be part of a school community! School, whether online or in person, needs to be a safe space where their emotional well being is a priority and they feel loved and included. Thank you for your support!
