This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a kindergarten teacher in a general education class of 24 students. I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning the curriculum and core concepts.
My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and a lack of funding requires that teachers spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.
My students are enthusiastic learners who deserve the best education and materials to support their learning.
My Project
Each week on Wednesday morning I take my class to the computer lab for thirty minutes. My students love it! They enjoy playing a variety of learning games, reading programs, and second semester they actually learn to type their journals. I am amazed at how quickly they learn on the computers. They are so motivated by technology. Unfortunately, we do not have a computer in our classroom. I want to have a working computer as one of our literacy centers where my students could engage in a variety of reading, writing, and math learning games, as well as become email pen pals with my nephew's kindergarten classmates over in England. Having a working computer in our classroom would really unlock the door to a variety of experiences. I would love to be able to use technology to support my students' vocabulary development, letter and sound connections, and storytelling.
For many of my students that 30 minutes a week is their only experience on a computer.
Over half my students do not have computers at home. Technology is changing so rapidly and I want my young learners to have a foundation in computer skills to help prepare my them for technology based learning experiences they will have throughout their educational career. This computer will be a wonderful learning tool for all my students to enjoy. Thank you for your generosity and support.
