This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a teacher in Chicago and am trying to create an inviting classroom for all of my kindergarten students. My students include diverse English language learners, so we are working hard to create a space that can target all of their needs. This room is intended to support students who can access the general education curriculum with the additional support of a special education teacher, bilingual teacher, and special education classroom assistants. My goal is to provide my students with STEM equipment including a variety of building tools to use as they enter the classroom before beginning while group instruction. This will allow them to build on their creativity and problem-solving skills as I provide them with challenges to complete using their builder tools. This will also provide them with an opportunity to navigate peer conflicts as they share the materials with their classmates.
