Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten is no longer a half day of school with play filling most of the hours. It is a jam packed full day with high standards to follow.
My classroom is made up of a diverse group of 16 energetic and adorable kindergarteners!
Six of my students speak Spanish as a primary language at home and are learning to speak English at school.
My students are five and six year, and are so eager to learn!
My school is a Title I elementary school with 600 students. Our school has 65% free and reduced lunch.
My Project
Our academic day is filled with literacy and math centers. In order to try and make learning fun and engaging, I make my centers game based. This way, my students can learn to socialize and take turns, while still practicing their math or reading skills.
The Making Ten and Simple Subtraction Lakeshore games will help students meet end of the year math goals which can be challenging.
The Counting Instant Learning Center will guide my instruction for students working on one to one counting. The Learning and Building Sight Word Center will improve sight word identification and spelling. In addition to the math and literacy centers, the manipulative library will give my students more of a choice during quiet time activities and will enhance their creativity.
Kindergarten has a rigorous curriculum and puts a lot of demands on young children. My job is to follow the standards while making activities appropriate and engaging. These materials will allow me to add a variety of materials to our center rotation and will give me options for differentiation.
