My Students
I teach in a rural area of Maine. Ours is one of three kindergarten classrooms in our school. We are excited to venture into a year full of fun and learning.
Kindergarten is a year full of firsts and wonderful adevntures.
While learning new material and skills is a huge part of kindergarten, so is building a love for school and learning. I strive to help my students feel safe, cared for and valued while at school. This is accomplished in endless ways, one being providing an inviting environment.
We spend our days moving about the room to many different areas of the room while learning. One important area of our room is the carpet area. It is here that we are taken away through wonderful childrens' literature, where we get to know each other through sharing, where we come together to learn and grow as one big group.
My Project
This classroom carpet will provide so much more than just floor coverage! It will help brighten our entire classroom. My goal at the beginning of every school year is to make any adjustments I can to welcome students into a visually pleasing, inviting space for learning. When students are happy to be at school and in their classroom it adds to their willingness to learn, take risks and be themselves.
This rug will also provide a safe space for us to meet, learn and grow together.
It will help povide visual boundaries to help students regulate self space while in a group. My hope is it will also become a favorite space for some of my students as we listen to stories, discuss new things and get to know each other in this space.
