This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are in Kindergarten at a Title I school. Many are experiencing school for the first time and a good portion of them are learning English. All of my students enjoy learning with hands-on materials that make learning fun.

As a first-year teacher, I am building my classroom supply of hands-on manipulatives and activities that students can utilize during centers.

These activities will help students with essential learning like letter recognition, letter formation, and letter sounds. For those students who have mastered those skills, I have included CVC word and rhyming puzzles. I have also included activities for math centers that will help students with fundamental skills like number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, spatial skills, and geometric reasoning. A set of storage cubes will fit perfectly into our classroom shelves and hold all of our center activities.

While students are engaged in high-quality independent learning activities, I can work one-on-one with students to help them with letter recognition and letter sounds or help my more advanced students build on their reading skills.

In addition to the hands-on learning activities, I have included organizational supplies and reference posters to encourage students’ independence in the classroom. When students know exactly where to find materials (and information), they can take charge of their learning and gain confidence in their abilities at the same time.

I have also included a small rug that will fit perfectly in our book nook. Students can sit in our book nook during free time and during centers. This rug will help make the book nook a more enjoyable place for them to get cozy and read!
