My Students
Students in my classroom are creative, resilient and passionate about learning. I teach at a low-income school, and my students face many challenges in their daily life. Many of my students are homeless, have incarcerated parents, and have experienced various types of childhood trauma. The odds are stacked against them, but they still have the courage to show up every day at school and learn.
My students come from Native American and other diverse backgrounds, and contribute much to the unique cultural makeup of our classroom.
My Project
An ideal Kindergarten classroom is welcoming and invites learning. This is the type of classroom I hope to create with the materials from this project. Kindergarten students thrive when learning is hands-on, interactive and fun. Students in kindergarten are active and must be able to be express themselves creatively throughout the school day.
Many of the materials in this project would make learning hands-on for students.
Specifically, in math, manipulatives would make learning to count more concrete for my students.
Play is an important piece of cognitive development in Kindergarten. Through play, children use their creativity to develop their dexterity and social-emotional skills. Several of the items in this project would allow students to play and continue to learn during their centers time at the end of the school day.
