My Students
I am a kindergarten dual language teacher. In my current classroom, I serve 36 medium to low income students. Because of this, some of the students show up at the door without the needed materials to best learn. In fact, some of my students show up and are solely seeking the love they don’t get at home.
I do my very best each day to greet them at the door and provide them with the opportunity to have a listening ear and a safe place.
Once I have met their basic needs, I strive to help them know that they have someone that truly believes in them! I know the warm feeling they get inside when they finally understand those skills they have been struggling with. The light on their face is priceless and the exact reason why I love what I do!
My Project
The love for reading begins in kindergarten. I want to have a plethora of books at all levels and genres. I want my students to have books that they will enjoy from day one and as they grow to the last day of school. The variety of genres will also encourage those students to go beyond their interest and read different types of books.
My students come into my room eager to learn how to read in Spanish and by the end they are reading to learn.
We need books that will allow them to put into practice the Spanish they are learning in class.
