Kindergarten Cyclists

My students need tricycles to use during recess in order to develop their motor skills, balance and self-confidence.

My Students

Our students are energetic, inquisitive and enthusiastic. They enjoy learning through hands-on experiences. Our school has a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) focus, and our curriculum is hands-on and project based.

Our students come from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and many are learning English as a second language.

A significant percentage of our students speak either Punjabi or Spanish at home. There are three kindergarten classes and one special needs class that all share our playground. Since our kindergarten is an all-day program, many of our students get most of their outdoor play time while at school. Our students enjoy being physically active but often have not had much experience pedaling a tricycle or bike.

My Project

Our school has a very small kindergarten playground. It is sometimes challenging to keep students busy, engaged and moving in our crowded space. We used to share our playground with a preschool that had tricycles, but now that program has moved and so have the tricycles. Our students really miss them.

Riding tricycles helps students develop motor skills, balance and stamina as well as confidence.

Many of our students come to school with no experience pedaling a tricycle. It is very exciting for them when they get around our little track for that very first time! We would like our students to continue to have the self-confidence building experiencing of riding a tricycle with the requested three new tricycles.
