Our school is a Title I campus including more than half the families coming from low -income situations. We have overcome many challenges in the past several years including Hurricane Harvey that disturbed many lives and some are still rebuilding. Now we have the challenge with COVID 19.
We are Houston Strong!
We are now as a district faced with helping our little learners continue their academic journeys at home
due to COVID 19. Our educators are now challenged to remotely deliver instructional content through virtual academic learning. My scholars regardless of circumstances in their world should still have the opportunity to invest and empower their academic mindset through literacy, math, and science regardless of the circumstances around them. Developmental tools are still needed to facilitate thinking/ learning. We must continue to lift up and teach families that education always breaks all barriers.
Ninety-five percent of my scholars qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. This means that they are living either at or below the poverty level. My continued pledge is to see that we support /help to close the gap with little learners and create academic and productive citizens.
These kinder resources and materials would be extremely beneficial to my students to carry over some of the skills and activities that we normally do in our class independent writing and phonics work stations and do them at home.
Students will continue connecting their learning by using the kinder on-level phonics workbook to sharpen their sight word recognition and spelling skills as well as use the use the magnetic pictures to write words and sentences.
My students will be excited as they are applying the skills they have learned in the classroom and navigate them to use at home.
