Kindergarten Communication Through Art, Music and Motion

My Students

Parents are working very hard to make ends meet. When parents come home tired, children often are left to electronic babysitters. Excessive video game playing and television viewing are making my students lack the fine and gross motor skills that they need.

My students are young, bright sponges of inquiry and delight.

They are eager learners filled with energy and a thirst for all things fun! Our school sits in a quiet community. Jobs are hard to come by and the cost of living is higher than most can afford. Often my students live with other families or with Grandparents or even Great-Grandparents. Children are safe, loved and cherished at their school. The motto on our classroom wall is, “There is Great Love For You Here.”

My Project

Communication through Art, Music and Motion will provide the much needed instruction in the areas of art, music and physical education while attending to the Common Core State Standards. Education in the arts has historically been lacking. Donating to this teacher developed program will provide funding for materials to incorporate daily lessons for kindergarten students in creative expression, and body awareness. These lessons designed by the classroom teacher are based on her research into whole brain learning and occupational therapy activities. Art should be a part of every classroom. Students need repeated opportunities to experience art, look at it, think about it, talk about it, ask questions about it, express feelings about it, and interpret it. Increased exposure time provides greater opportunities for class discussion to occur. It is essential for developing thinking skills and for developing in students a respect for their own ability to perceive connections.

Large muscle movements and coordination are improved through rhythmic patterns with skipping, dancing, marching, and moving to the music purchased through the funding of this program.

This teacher created program titled Communication through Art, Music and Motion will draw out students’ full potential as learners to help them feel positive toward themselves, to keep their brains fully active and to keep learning energized.
