Kindergarten Book Bags and Library Cards for All!

Help me give my students library cards and Kindergarten book bags to start the year off right!

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Quinn's classroom raised $402

My Project

We're gearing up for another school year here in the library and I'm trying an experiment asking you all for help with some of the start of the year basics. I hand make and supply all the library cards for my students, since we don't have access to an industrial card maker, and there are a few things that will make the job a lot easier. First, our paper cutter broke several years ago, and it would speed up the process immensely if it could be replaced! Card stock works well to use for the cards themselves and book bags help kindergartners learn library routines.

Since I started using book bags for the kindergartner's library cards more than twice as many students remember to return their books.

Most librarians know that the first books checked out to a brand new kindergarten student will never be seen again - typically around 80% lost. But I've found that by using the book bags, clearly labeled with how to return to get new books, nearly 60% will come back within the first week (and regularly throughout the school year) and many more show up again within the first few months of the year. It means the kindergarteners get to check out so many more books during their first year of school - which has a huge impact on launching their skills as a reader and student.

Thank you for considering!
