This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a low-income high-needs urban community, which I have loved serving for the past 15 years. We are a Title I school, where 100% of our students receive free lunch. This is a community that has endured the worst that poverty and violence have to offer but continues to overcome every challenge by rebuilding and transforming their neighborhood. This resilience and enthusiasm are reflected in our children.

My students come from diverse backgrounds, and all arrive in my classroom eager to learn, to succeed, and to feel safe and loved.

My goal as their teacher is to make sure these needs are met every day. I want to provide them with every opportunity afforded to others. I hope you will join me!

My Project

What could be more basic than chart paper and markers, right? We use them to share and organize our ideas, create anchor charts to support our learning, and visualize mathematical concepts, just to name a few. These high-use materials often need replenishing.

Charts and Sight Word flash cards both play a big role in developing language and age appropriate vocabulary.

With daily use, these materials will help my students grow into strong readers and thinkers. Thank you for considering this opportunity to help my students succeed in our Kindergarten class!
