Our school a very small K-12 school north of Hoquiam/Aberdeen, Washington. The school takes pride on small classrooms. This school is really one big family and has been part of many of the families around here for many generations. I have 5 girls and 5 boys in our kindergarten classroom this year. I have many learners that are in the speech program.
"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." - Mark Van Doren.
This is my first year teaching kindergarten, which means I do a lot of the learning right next to my students. The students are just as much the teacher as I am.
My Project
We're working with minimal amount of art supplies in the classroom. I've collected a small amount of art supplies over my years of teaching and we could really use access to fun mediums. With these supplies, we'll be able to do many different types of art projects. We'll have many opportunities to put paint onto canvases. I would like the students to explore layering tissue paper to make new colors and make mock stained glass. Also, I would like my students to be able to make the time old classic shrinky dinkys just like I did in Kindergarten (which was one of my most favorite things to do).
Remember when you were in Kindergarten and all the cool projects you were so proud to take home and show to your friends and family?
My mother and I still have some of the projects I made in Kindergarten and over the years. These items are still special to us. I want to be able to make those memories with my kindergarten students.
