I teach a class of 22 amazing kindergartners who are eager to learn and deserve endless resources, experiences, and opportunities. They come from different backgrounds, have a wealth of experiences, and have a lot to contribute to our diverse learning community. They are eager for knowledge and engaging opportunities to learn.
Unfortunately, our school has been closed for 6 weeks and will not reopen this year.
The students, parents, and I are working hard to make distance learning work for them. I am utilizing interactive and educational websites, video conferencing, live read-aloud, and finding new ways to teach reading, writing, science, social studies, math, art, and so much more! It's a new world of teaching that is teaching us a lot but we miss each other tremendously!
The district has provided families with Chromebooks and Wi-fi access and daily lunch is also provided. I am looking to reach my kids in more ways so that they can have the resources needed to succeed! I am hoping the DonorsChoose community can help me reach out to my students to fulfill their academic needs during this unexpected and difficult time.
My Project
My students need basic school and art supplies at home during this time of at-home, distance learning. I have provided them with many online and virtual tools for success, but I feel that the most important component is missing: essential tools! Many of my students do not have the basic supplies needed for homeschooling.
For art, my students would love to have watercolor trays, color pencils, fine tip markers, and tape!
I like to do step by step art/drawings with them at school, and I have all the tools they need in the classroom, but, at home, many are lacking those basic supplies. I would love for them to be able to watercolor at home and know that it is not a school-only luxury.
My students absolutely love art and it breaks my heart to know that some of them are not experiencing it right now without the necessary tools. I would love to be able to get those in need of some colorful supplies to brighten their days!
