Kindergarten Adventure Land

Help me give my students a greater number sense with the use of the magnetic ten frame to assist them in learning numerals and understanding addition and subtraction facts.

My Students

I teach kindergarten students at a rural elementary school in the Appalachian region of Northeastern Kentucky. Most of my students struggle with poverty, and three-fourths of them qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Our population changes often as many students move in and out of this area of the district.

Also, I have students with special needs, who must overcome learning challenges on a daily basis. These students are kind, caring, and considerate children, needing extra assistance to flourish. My students have so much potential, and I enjoy watching them grow and learn each day. I want to be able to provide them with the basic classroom supplies they need to thrive.

My Project

My students need crayons, sharpener, reading intervention games, magnetic ten frames, and tape in order to participate in learning activities such as Response to Intervention, which helps meet the needs of students in small group settings. This is just one service students receive on a daily basis to ensure their success in Kindergarten.

Without assistance, our students could not receive the support that they so desperately need. The knowledge that students gain from these learning experience will help them solve problems, cooperate with peers, and build subject-area knowledge that will be useful throughout their lives and future careers.
