Our school is in a large city with many of the challenges facing other cities this size. As teachers, we're sensitive to the fact that many of our students struggle to get their basic needs met. Most of our students come to school carrying the heavy load of some kind. Ninety percent of my students are second language learners. Many of my students are at-risk for academic failure. This is many of my students' first time in a school setting. The early learners in my class are more interested in the process of discovering and manipulating materials, much more than the final products of their experiments.
We have great kids!
We just need a little extra help. Our classroom is a safe environment designed to help us focus and learn.
Studies have shown that children’s academic performance declines in higher temperatures. In hotter classrooms, headaches and heat exhaustion symptoms develop. These physical symptoms can hinder academic performance. Warm classrooms also decrease interest and alertness, distracting students.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Despite the research, very few school districts have mandated temperature maximums, nor is air conditioning required in schools. Educators and parent organizations country-wide have brought attention to the need for cooling in classrooms. Without cooling, schools are forced to adapt when temperatures rise.
