My Project

KINDER KIDS GOT TO MOVE IT, MOVE IT! Kinesthetics for Kindergartners is an engaging and creative way to incorporate movement with actions, songs, dance, and activities for learning foundational phonological awareness, rhyming, blending, reading, and writing skills. Learning letters and sounds and correlating phonemes to graphemes, reading words, and writing sentences requires hundreds of repetitive practices to cement new knowledge and build automaticity in these grade-level literacy skills.

My goals for this project are to provide my students with hands-on learning experiences that promote high-levels of participation by engaging their minds and bodies through movement and manipulatives that facilitate learning by doing.

Because building learning stamina and sitting for extended periods of time are challenging skills for Kindergartners, these products will help me give my students fun, interactive, engaging literacy lessons for different learning levels and styles. For example the egg shakers will integrate learning rhythm with learning letter name and sound chants and songs and with identifying and counting sounds in words. Students will use the scarves to sky write letter formations. The paint brushes will help teach the correct way to hold a pencil while writing letters on the ceiling and ground, on their hand, leg, and elbow partner during daily phonics lessons. The Ninja headbands will be used to teach students to be quick, short, sharp, and accurate as they say and chop letter sounds. The tactile literacy manipulatives will be used for Tier 2 and 3 interventions and to promote flexibility, variability, and differentiation opportunities in small group and independent work.

Kindergartners have active bodies and busy minds with short attention spans. My classroom mantra is "Fun to Learn". I would love to give my students a variety of engaging learning materials to foster an environment where young children have fun learning literacy.
