Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a low socioeconomic and often rough area of Los Angeles. Although they do not live in the best of neighborhoods, I strive to give them the best education for a brighter future.
My students are 24 energetic, inquisitive, smart 5-6-year-old students from diverse backgrounds in the dual language program.
They consist of 50% English Language Learners with a Latino background and 50% English only students with Latino and African American backgrounds. I love that my students are diverse in their backgrounds and in their Spanish abilities. They are able to learn from each other as they begin their journey into bi-literacy and bilingualism.
My Project
I'm so excited to have all my students back in the classroom and practicing their motor skills on hands-on projects, but for that we need some essential materials. The cardstock and regular copy paper will be used in a multitude of ways, from art projects to copied worksheet assignments. Each of these activities will help my students hone their fine motor skills and give them the practice they need to support their classroom instruction. Glue is an essential item in kinder. My students go through so much while working on their activities. And the multicultural crayons are a special item that is rarely funded at schools, but they are so important for drawing and coloring people's skin. They are fun and helpful to spark conversations about diversity. All of these materials will help my students work and learn at the same time. They will be cutting, coloring, painting, and having fun with these materials.
