My Project

My kindergarten students are joyful, curious, and deeply caring, but they are still learning how to navigate the big emotions that come with being five and six years old. Every day they experience moments of frustration, worry, excitement, disappointment, and friendship challenges as they learn how to be part of a classroom community. These moments create powerful opportunities to help children understand their feelings, care for others, and make thoughtful choices.

These books will help transform everyday classroom moments into powerful lessons about managing emotions, building friendships, and showing kindness to others.

Through resources like the Little SPOT Emotional Regulation book set and other powerful stories such as Wilma Jean the Worry Machine, Big Feelings, and Angry Alligator and His Cool Cucumber, students will see characters experiencing many of the same emotions they face in their own lives and learn positive ways to respond. As we read and discuss these stories together, students will learn strategies for calming their bodies, solving problems with peers, and responding to challenges in healthy ways.

My goal for this project is to build a classroom collection of social-emotional stories that we can return to throughout the year during read-alouds, class discussions, and real-life problem-solving moments. These books will help my students develop emotional awareness, strengthen friendships, and create a classroom community where kindness, understanding, and self-regulation are part of our daily learning.
