As we unpacked the dress up vests, play food, and stand together, their excitement quickly turned into action. Within minutes, they were organizing the shop, assigning roles, and creating their own systems for how things should run. Some students stocked shelves and sorted food by category or color, while others eagerly stepped into the role of cashier or baker. What impressed me most was how naturally they collaborated—negotiating roles, solving small conflicts, and using rich vocabulary as they interacted. The play felt purposeful and real.\r\n\r\nRight now, our dramatic play area remains a shop and kitchen, and it has become one of the most engaging spaces in our classroom. Students are writing grocery lists, counting play money, reading food labels, and practicing conversation skills. The materials you helped provide have allowed this space to feel authentic while encouraging creativity and reinforcing literacy, math, and social-emotional skills every day.\r\n\r\nSoon, we will be transforming the space into a post office. Students will help redesign the area, create signs, write letters, and practice addressing envelopes. This next step will build on the collaboration and imagination already happening and connect directly to our writing and community lessons. Your generosity has given my students more than materials—it has given them a space where learning truly comes alive through play.","fullyFundedDate":1764727283256,"projectUrl":"project/building-big-dreams-through-dramatic-pla/9919339/","projectTitle":"Building Big Dreams Through Dramatic Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10327682_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764022330463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mskinderclark"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24804","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":552,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":17,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.7,"schoolId":24804,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Abraham Lincoln Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Abraham Lincoln Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/oak-park-elementary-school-district-97/abraham-lincoln-elementary-school/24804"}
