Help me give my students a replacement kiln. We have an amazing facility where a ceramics program has operated for over 40 years. Recent budget cuts and a devastating leak has found us without a kiln.
This is our student generated mission statement of the art room.
We will strive to use art as a blissful discipline in order to interpret the world around us using creative expression.
As the sole visual art educator at my school I am responsible for all art forms and a wealth of curriculum grades 9-12. My upperclassmen students have been with 3 or more years. By this time I know them well enough that I have the opportunity to individualize a curriculum tailored to those students' strengths. Though a small percentage of my students seek out an arts specific career, the visual art education gained within these walls carry through their personal growth well into adulthood. A rigorous and rich visual art education is vital to a strong department, but without the passion to create the best designed lesson will fall flat. I love my students! They encourage each other and challenge each other. They are excited about creating and together we are a family in the art room.
My Project
At our school we are fortunate to have an amazing facility in which to host an independent, year long, ceramics course. This is not a common amenity for most local public high schools. Our space is specifically designed as a ceramics studio and my course is a popular one with students. My students represent a variety of learning types and academic needs. We even have a dedicated room specifically designed for the kiln itself, proper electric outlets and ventilation.
Over the summer a water leak devastated our existing kiln, rendering it a complete loss.
Due to deep budget cuts and poor insurance funding we are unable to completely replace our kiln. Our previous kiln was a standard medium size yet adequately accommodated the amount of work my courses produce. It is used almost everyday and is maintained by myself and a select group of advanced trained students. A ceramics project much less an entire course can not successfully operate without a kiln.
An equatable kiln replacement will run about $4000
An appropriate model for our needs are as follows:
