My Project
The books taught in a classroom should reflect the population of students who will read them, and they deserve the opportunity to read texts that helped shape their world.
I teach Oklahoma juniors, and Killers of the Flower Moon allows students to look at the role of wealth and power as it shaped the very landscape they live in.
Furthermore, this text will allow for cross-curriculum development as juniors also take United States history.
The text will serve as a launching point for argument, research, and discussion. I have had great success with contemporary nonfiction in my course, and this text would be a valuable addition to my curriculum.
