Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment and the children enjoy coming to school. I am currently teaching eighteen, lovable preschoolers who are curious, funny, loving and eager to learn. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children.
My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, creative, honest and cute.
The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
My Project
Our preschool classroom is an enchanting, magical place. I am constantly thinking of how to improve our little home away from home. I strive to have the materials needed to create a home within my classroom. Preschoolers love to pretend and they love to use their imagination. The pretend area of our classroom is a popular place in our room even for the boys! The problem is our dolls have become dirty and raggedy due to years of wear and tear. They are not cute like Raggedy Ann or Andy. The children play with dolls throughout the day. They feed them, dress them and put them to bed. They also like to read to them in the library area and sometimes at rest time. I would love to have tents for the children to play with the dolls in. We also would love children aged dolls of different races and genders. My goal is to provide my students with the supportive environment necessary to role play different scenarios, conflict resolution strategies and expand their imaginations through play.
The children will benefit so much from new dolls.
It is a chance for their imagination to thrive and to learn about compassion, empathy, responsibility and love. These dolls would make such a big difference in our classroom. These dolls would literally light up the classroom. Every child likes to place with a fresh, new doll and the best part is, they wouldn't have to compete for dolls. The children could all play together in colorful tents and build a lifetime of memories
