This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Within my first couple weeks I have been exposed to a tremendous group of young students. These young boys and girls come to my class full of energy and enthusiasm and eager to learn. First question I hear every day is "What are we going to learn today? I want to do everything I can to provide these students with as many learning opportunities as possible.
My students aren't afraid to take risks and challenge their bodies and mind in order to see growth and success.
It is my responsibility to bring the best out of them and I can't wait to work with the students I have here at Carver. These students come from a low socioeconomic environment and don't get the same opportunities and experiences that some other students might get. This only adds to my desire to provide them with the best possible physical education experience that they can get.
My Project
At our elementary school, the kinder through 5th grade students need a variety of developmentally appropriate and fun PE equipment. These resources will help our students to have a successful, efficient, fun and positive learning experience in PE. Those positive learning experiences will help them develop their physical skills, but also translate to having a positive attitude in life. When students are seeing and having success in PE, they begin to build confidence and self-efficacy in themselves and in their general ed classes. This in return creates a growth mindset, along with a determined work ethic.
Over 380 kids will experience a positive and safe learning experience in my class, and these resources will go a long way in creating that.
In order for it to be positive and safe, the equipment needs to be soft. The GSM dodgeballs, foam tennis balls, and the bean bags are all examples of soft and safe equipment. The equipment also needs to be developmentally appropriate for age and skill levels. The soccer ball set, easy grip footballs, and plastic baseballs are designed with lower skill levels and ages in mind. This way students see growth and success while with official sized equipment, they wouldn't see as many positive results. These resources will help create a positive learning environment by students seeing growth in their physical skills, and having a positive self efficacy about themselves.
With your help, we can get our students developing their physical skills in a positive and safe learning environment. This allows the students to thrive and grow not only physically, but mentally, socially, and emotionally. Students will begin to see their success' and continue to be motivated to keep working hard. These skills will translate from into their PE classes to outside of their lives and into their futures.
