Kids Need Books; Kids Play Together

Help me give my students books, focusing on reading and comprehension! Athletic equipment like sport balls, and a volleyball net to build teamwork, empathy, and fair play; create a social emotional learning environment for them.

My Project

Learn to love reading is my project. Our kids are active and enjoy learning, but we have few new books and PE supplies. The children often don’t have books at home so I try to get them interested in books in my class! The Pandemic was devastating for most of our students, many had no internet, so very little schooling for many of them. They have also lost lots of social time and need to work on their social skills.

I work hard to get them reading chapter books and gaining an interest in reading.

The sets I picked are going to help them find interest in many genres. The graphic novels like “The Hobbit”, “I Survived”, and “Witches of Brooklyn”, will help the students who are still struggling to read as the amazing art along with a good story help the students get interested. “Black Beauty” is a fun classic. Then many will enjoy “The Magic Tree House” as it is full of adventure and mystery! The,“Junie B. Jones” books will bring some humor and develop interest in that genre.

The building of community is often helped by playing team sports, thus I would like to teach volleyball, and a new volleyball set will make it so they actually understand the rules, and how to play the game correctly. The balls that I got will be perfect for dodgeball, as well as kickball, and flag football.

We are working hard to get caught up and keep them interested in school. That's why I'm hoping some new books and graphic novels will help! The parents are helpful, and have a great deal of commitment in their children’s education, so we are in a great environment to see great results this year!
