Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a diverse group of challenged fifth graders. My students face many disadvantages all of which they face every day with an attitude of perseverance. This Never Give Up Attitude is generated by their desire to better themselves and their families through educational and cultural opportunities. The class is made up of a group of students, each with a mixture of backgrounds, abilities, and interests. These students come together to participate in activities that are new and outside of their comfort level. Our school is dedicated to providing a positive learning environment to enable each child to reach their full potential. Even though our school promotes good citizenship and sportsmanship we lack the materials to carry out our mission.
It is through teamwork and perseverance that my students become excited and energized; sportsmanship and intellectual challenges define their Greatness!
When they work together they learn life skills and self confidence that will take them beyond elementary education and into life long learning.
My Project
These softball gloves and balls will give my students the most exciting experience ever - throwing and catching a softball for the very first time. My students watch MLB and have a favorite team but have never experienced the feel of a ball inside a glove or how it feels to make their first game winning catch. This is a life changing event in the hearts and souls of young girls and boys.
Kids just want to play ball - these fantastic softball gloves and balls will help my students develop hand-eye coordination and self esteem.
Research has proven that physical activity releases endorphins in the brain and happy kids are healthy kids. Healthy kids learn and grow to be good citizens of our country and global society. My students want to experience "the great American past time" baseball through the play of the game - softball.
