Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Kids just want to have fun with expressing themselves. I teach 5th grade students from a high need community. Over 90% of our students are economically disadvantaged. Most students will not have artistic resources at home to express themselves in a fun way.

All year long, my students have been working extremely diligently to be successful on their reading and math 5th grade state tests, and they are getting burned out. To balance their hard work, kids need fun sometimes. Outside activities are difficult, because it is either too hot, too cold, or too rainy. Alternatively, my students have expressed an interest in art. Unfortunately, this year we do not have an art teacher.

Items such as markers, craft items, glitter, and pastels will allow my students to have some fun in expressing themselves through activities during recess or free time in class. This would be a nice break from math and reading drills related to testing. The projects will benefit my students by allowing them to have art supplies readily available. It will also give them a short break from school work and will allow them to create various art projects.

Do you enjoy seeing children having fun? If so, then you can make it possible for my students to enjoy their time at school a little more. Kids need to create things and express themselves in many ways. Your help can assist my class have artistic fun.
