My students need items that they can play, create and do together to facilitate conversations, group play, constructive play. This will help with a "soft start" morning that I am working to create.
My classroom is one of a kind. It is full of vibrant seven and eight year olds. They want to learn and have a passion for education. They are full of smiles, love giving hugs and are always joking. They are hardworking and extremely compassionate. When you see them throughout the hallways and in other classrooms, they are leaders. They are constantly working to make themselves better as a student and an all around citizen. The joy I have teaching them is unlike any other. They are bright and reach goals daily.
My Project
I am creating a list of items such as blocks, kinetic sand, and building tiles so that my students can come in the morning and choose a activity to play with friends.
This helps support my idea of flexible seating choice.
These items are just a start to the items my students can grab in the morning. I do not want to do morning work because that is just furthering solidifying the idea that I choose their morning and that is not their choice. By providing my students with these items they will learn to work together, make choices, start their day with a positive attitude because they have chosen how their day will start.
Some of the items I am requesting are building materials such as magnetic tiles so they can use their imagination and create. They can also use them to work together to finish a project. I am asking for a rolling cart so all the supplies are housed there and there is no question or confusion where items are located. I am also asking for kinetic sand because I have some kiddos that have a very artistic side that want to explore this talent. All of these items I have requested will help the kids develop ideas or new passions they either knew they had or would like to strengthen.
