Help me give my students access to critical social emotional learning (SEL) through this group activity which will enable students to apply all core academics into this real-world learning experience.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a dedicated bunch of fourth-graders who believe that education is their way to better their lives. All of these students receive free breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. These children have a set "safe path" to walk on to get to and from school. They know that they will be out of harms’ way when they stay on this protected path. Imagine walking to school in that manner every day? Many of these kids have perfect attendance or are close to it. They know that an enriched education will help advance their futures.
My students are ambitious, focused survivors who persevere and are kind, empathetic and hard working
They should be able to go anywhere in the world because they will have a great education, and not have to settle.
My Project
“Change the food in the schools and we can influence how children think. Change the curriculum and teach them how to garden and how to cook and we can show that growing food and cooking and eating together give lasting richness, meaning, and beauty to our lives.” ~ Alice Waters~ Our students have survived the worst of the COVID pandemic and are so grateful for the food our school provides to them and the community. They have reflected on food security and want to empower themselves by growing their own food and feeding our school.
These grow lights, heating pads, pots and soil will help students grow tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, and other foods in our classrooms that we can then serve in our cafeteria!
Students need to acquire knowledge about where food comes from and how it grows! Nutrition is such an important part to one's health.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
