Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have limited technology in our classrooms and the right tools can make all the difference. My students need newer technology to learn to read and write English well.
My classroom is full of outstanding young writers with incredible potential!
I am the proud teacher of 90 wonderful 8th grade students from incredibly diverse backgrounds. But 80% of our school's population are considered economically disadvantaged and getting current technology is often impossible.
My ESL students come from more than 17 countries with more than 6 different first languages spoken. Interactive media is essential and with these iPads, I can provide students with one-on-one interventions with language acquisition software, guided internet browsing and the ability to create audio and video presentations to enhance their understanding and their projects. Through the use of visual media, my students can understand sophisticated concepts and bridge the gap between their intelligence and their ability to express that intelligence in written English.
My Project
My students will use these two iPad Minis during independent work in reading centers. They will utilize language learning applications to engage in interactive activities and assess their learning. With classroom dashboard applications, I will be able to track their progress more frequently and individualize their learning better. All students will greatly benefit from these iPads in the classroom by helping to keep them more engaged and to have practice with current technology.
These tools will allow my students to learn independently and to teach each other, not just this year, but for the years to come.
Technology is becoming increasingly more important in education today.
As new technology is released, our students have to be able to learn how to use it within their studies. Beyond simply engaging and assessing students, these iPads will improve learning efficiency. While the students might receive similar instruction from other media, the iPads will allow students to receive instruction with videos, audio files, and interactive activities.
