My students need these organizational classroom library pieces to store their self-selected book choices. These pieces will help students look for books that they are interested in and take them home to share with family!
My students come to me in 30 minute intervals in their small groups to work on reading skills such as foundational decoding, sight word recognition, and for the older kiddos: comprehension strategies! My students are kind and respectful. They come from homes that value hard work and respect. They also come from low-text environments, that is, they do not have access to many books in their homes. Getting diverse books into their hands and homes on a regular basis will promote their reading growth. My students are hard workers and when given the right materials and direction they soar!
My Project
My project will greatly help so many students access books and grow at life- long readers! To help put books in my students hands and homes, I go to many garage sales and second-hand stores to buy gently used books for them to take home and return when they are finished! However, I am in need of a more organized way to store the books they choose and to display books that may be of interest to my students! My existing shelves are worn down and the few books bins I have are over crowded. The display case will help me display books that students may take interest in and books that they may have never discovered if the books simply laid in stacks I'm my room. The white bins will help me store reading strategy games, bookmarks, and my classroom "check out" system. The puzzle storage cubby and book bags will help students keep track of the books they choose throughout the week and help me check up on their reading choices and interests! Reading is a very important skill and this project will make a great difference for many students with reading at this critical learning period in their lives!

The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” ― Dr. Seuss
