Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an enthusiastic, creative and motivated group of middle schoolers who love great, fresh food!:) Their levels of cooking knowledge span from those who are experienced young cooks to those just getting started and wanting to learn to cook.

Our Kids in the Kitchen Club began in the fall of 2020, when we were all in Distance Learning, and this was a great way to get a group of like minded, cooking and food loving kids "together in the kitchen" to chat, share recipes, and cook together over ZOOM.

It has been so fun to see all the recipes the students bring to our group; and I myself have learned so many new ones that I will hold on to and continue to make!

Now that school will be back on campus, we will be able to meet in person and cook together as a large group! The students are so excited to be able to do this!

My Project

Our Kids in the Kitchen students started in Distance Learning, yet we will now be meeting on campus and need the necessary kitchen equipment for large groups of students to be able to cook together in one space! Countertop toaster ovens are ideal, as they don't take too much space, and can bake, toast, and even air fry!

Our goal is to have 10 large, countertop toaster ovens and we are halfway there; we just need 5 more!

Students will learn and share the joy of cooking for themselves, family, and friends, while being introduced to world cultures, customs, and flavors. They will also learn kitchen tool safely, food prep, eating healthy, clean up, and budgeting. This will promote and encourage student participation in food and cultural related events within the school and community.
