My Students

Can you imagine at the age of seven (or any age in elementary school) having your book published and available to check out in your own school library? Well we want EVERY student at our school to have an opportunity to become an author/illustrator.

Our students are creative, intelligent, diverse, fun, polite, and wonderful kids who LOVE writing!

Our school boasts multi age classrooms, school of choice, special needs classrooms, and a wonderful teaching staff committed to providing students with the best education. Teachers teach in their areas of expertise. Parents are very supportive and help in many ways. Our community is very involved in the school. They value education, volunteering in classrooms, volunteering time to run programs, serving on committees, and donating materials. Kids, staff, parents, and community members all work together to make our school a great place to learn.

My Project

While brainstorming ways to improve our students' writing scores our staff came up with the idea of a media center writing center, available to all students. Students, writing for a purpose, will be able to create their own books which will be available for other students to check out. Thus, our students will become published authors and illustrators! We will have blank books of all shapes and sizes, magazines, comic strips, journals, and newspapers. The area will have colored pencils, stamps, crayons, and other medium needed to make their beautiful masterpieces. My students need a writing center desk, colored pencils, and blank books in order to publish stories, magazines, and newspapers.

All students will have an opportunity to practice writing, reading and drawing skills.

This will boost their self-esteem and confidence. The students will see the joy that their unique and creative written word can bring others and intrinsically be motivated to write more. Each student will feel joy when their book is on our school library shelf, available for check-out.
